This stage brings pilgrims to Kaunas, Lithuania’s second city and a major milestone on the Camino. The route descends toward the Nemunas river and follows its banks into the city, giving a dramatic approach. Kaunas offers everything a pilgrim needs: rest, resupply and rich culture. The Old Town and Kaunas Castle are a reward after days of rural walking.
Many pilgrims take an extra day in Kaunas to visit the Pažaislis Monastery (start of Stage 13) or explore the interwar architecture of Laisvės Alėja boulevard.
