This shorter stage is one of the most rewarding on the Žemaitija variant. The path climbs gently through meadows before dropping into the Mastas lake landscape approaching Telšiai. Telšiai is the spiritual and cultural capital of Samogitia — the Žemaitija diocese is one of the oldest in Lithuania — and the cathedral and bishop’s seminary are significant landmarks for pilgrims.
The Rainių chapel, just outside Telšiai, is a memorial site to victims of the 1941 massacre and a place of quiet reflection.
